“To make this Shabbat a Delight”, consider a bottle of 1848 Winery’s “Generations Dry Red 2021″. A blend” of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon and 45% Merlot, it has strong flavors of red fruit, good body, and is well balanced.
Yossi Shor is the CEO & Owner of 1848 Winery. He comes from the very “Galina/Shor” family that began making wine in 1848 in the Old City of Jerusalem. He is the 8th Generation in his family to make wine, but for him it is not just about being in the “family business”.
Yossi started this winery in 2006 with the objective of making small quantities of high quality wine. Unlike wineries established by other members of the Galina/Shor family, “1848” is a boutique winery dedicated to producing, among other things, traditional wines from French varietals. Their winemaker, Illan Assouline, is from France and trained at the University of Bordeaux. He is a purist and pays attention to every detail, making him a perfect fit for “1848”.
The vineyards are located in the Galilee (gravel and volcanic soil) and the Judean Hills (limestone), and reflect a Mediterranean climate. The vineyards are densely planted, which is characteristic of the best French wineries. This means they produce less fruit, but the quality is better. All the equipment in the winery represents state-of-the art technology.
Their hard work has certainly paid off. At the Israel Wine Awards Competition, their 2018 Cabernet France won the Gold Medal, and the 2019 Chardonnay won the Silver Medal. Wine Enthusiast has rated many of their wines in the “well recommended” range and flagged for “good value”.
“Generations” is an entry level wine that offers good QPR (quality price ratio), meaning it is a nice wine at a nice price. The name of the wine “Generations” represents the commitment of our friends at “1848 Winery” to continue producing wine in the Holy Land; just as their forefathers did eight generations ago.
This Shabbat, let’s support the Shor family’s 175 years/8 generations of commitment to winemaking in Israel, and put a bottle of their wine on your table.
