To make this Shabbat a Delight, please consider putting a bottle of the 2023 Rose from Ramat Negev Winery on your table. This wine was made from 100% Cabernet Franc grown in the desert. It was produced using the “blanc de noir’ method, meaning the red grapes were pressed and the juice fermented separate from the skins. The color is light pink with hints of orange and the taste is juicy with grapefruit and peach. This is a dry wine with 13% alcohol, perfect for a Shabbat meal of grilled salmon and vegetables.
With its home in the Negev, the winery is a living example of utilizing modern technology to “make the desert bloom”. Located in the tiny village of Kadesh Barnea, right on the Israel/Egyptian Border, they possess all the modern technology to carry out the process of wine making.
The Negev generally gets 10-11 inches of rain per year, and temperatures reach up to 110 degrees during the day. They have drilled into the rock hard soil for planting, and utilized drip irrigation to minimize evaporation. This is a process in which pipes and hoses deliver the exact amount of water a plant needs directly to its roots.
Ramat Negev is the largest winery in the desert yet still they have struggled since Oct. 7th. A storage facility was hit by rockets released from Gaza and a pallet of bottles destroyed. Though the loss will affect them financially, they are glad that all their workers are safe and we pray this remains so.
This Shabbat, let’s remember our friends in the desert and put a bottle of the Ramat Negev Rose on your table. I picked up mine through Kosher Wine Warehouse, Free Shipping with a purchase of $99. Use the code ISRAELWINEGIRL for 10% off your entire purchase.
