Kishor Winery Viognier 2021

This Shabbat we are excited to bring you a delicious Viognier from the Kishor Winery. Viognier is a dry white wine from the Northern Rhone, France’s Mediterranean area, which does well in Israel’s Galilee region, due to their high altitude and similar climate of warm days and cool nights.

Kishor’s Viognier 2021 is deliciously aromatic, with an essence of fresh tangerine, white peach, and honeysuckle; and the taste is even better with melon, pear, and a bit of vanilla coming from the oak.  This wine is considered medium bodied, well balanced, and pairs perfectly with a Shabbat dinner/lunch of chicken or fish.

Kishor Winery is located in the Western Galilee, one of Israel’s most beautiful locations. Sitting right above the Mediterranean Sea, it has ancient roots as a wine growing region. An inscription, carved into a local mountain, tells that 2,000-3,000 years ago a wine road passed through the area with vineyards growing on either side. Once the Ottoman Empire took over, not a single vine was planted for generations.

Today, the location of the winery, Kfar Kishor, is a small village that is home to about 160 adults with special needs. Many are employed either in the vineyard or winery, sharing the work of caring for the grapes and producing the wines. The winemaker, Richard Davis, originally from South Africa, is committed to this model of producing quality wines while engaging in the social responsibility of supporting the community. The contribution of the special needs workers is valued and integral to the overall operation.  These past months since Oct. 7th, it has been especially important when so many businesses have lost workers called to serve.

Kishor is considered a boutique winery that produces about 50,000 bottles a year. Their line includes Mediterranean style wines (Syrah, Mourvèdre, Grenache) as well as the traditional Bordeaux varietals (Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot), but the Viognier is truly special and one of our favorites here at Israel Wine Girl, also receiving awards at the prestigious Terra Vino Competition.

So, make this Shabbat a Delight, and treat yourself to the delicious Viognier from our friends as Kishor Winery.  It’s a wonderful wine to mark the beginning of June. Kishor wines are Kosher and can be found at select wine shops: Princeton Corkscrew, Columbus Avenue Wine and Spirits, and online at  israeliwinedirect.com/products/brand/Kishor.
