Barkan Argaman

This Shabbat, please join us here at Israel Wine Girl, in celebrating the rescue of hostage Noa Argamani, by putting the ARGAMAN wine from Barkan on your table.

“Argaman” is the Hebrew word for crimson, which is the beautiful color of the wine. It is exclusively an Israeli grape, a cross between Carignan (Spanish) and Sousao (Portugal). On the nose, it has a lovely bouquet and smells of fresh fruit, and on the pallet tastes of plum, black berry, raspberry, and wild berries. It is considered a light to medium bodied wine and was crafted by Master of Wine Ido Lewinsohn.

Originally intended to be used for blending, the grape was created by Professor Roy Spiegel, with the intent of finding a replacement for Carignan which didn’t provide much color. Avi Feldstein, the winemaker from Segal, was the first to see Argaman as something special that could stand on its own. He planted the grape in the Upper Galilee and bottled it as a single varietal. Today Argaman is the 6th most planted grape in Israel.

Barkan is the 2nd largest winery in the State of Israel, producing over 10 million bottles a year. They own over 2,000 acres of land throughout the country, which gives them the flexibility to grow the best grapes from the very best terroir, which they attribute as key to their success. For all their hard work, they have been the most decorated winery in the country with over 400 medals.

What better way to celebrate the homecoming of Noa Argamani than with Barkan’s Argaman wine. At age 26, she was abducted on Oct. 7th by Hamas Terrorists from the Nova Music Festival, where she was enjoying an evening of dancing and fun with her boyfriend Avinatan Or, who is still in captivity. She was rescued by Israeli Special Forces along with 3 others. WELCOME HOME NOA!!!

We would also like to welcome home the three other rescued hostages: Almog Meir Jan, Andrey Kozlov, and Shlomi Ziv,.

We mourn the loss of Chief Inspector Arnon Zmora, who was critically wounded during the hostage rescue operation and died shortly after. May his memory be a blessing.
