Domaine du Castel La Vie Blanc 2023

This Shabbat, we are excited to feature another delicious wine from one of Israel’s top wineries, the “La Vie Blanc” from the Domaine du Castel

La Vie Blanc du Castel is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and just a touch of Gewurztraminer. The Sauvignon Blanc provides the citrus, the Chardonnay provides structure and balance, and the touch of Gewurztraminer contributes to the floral smell. Cheers to the winemakers, Eli and Eytan Ben Zaken, for blending these three varietals and producing a wonderful wine!!

With a light gold color, and the essence of tropical fruit and citrus, this is deliciously refreshing . It is perfect for drinking during these “Dog Days of August”, and best when accompanied by a “Jamie Geller” dinner or lunch.

When pairing wine with a meal, the most straightforward rule is “stick with one color”. When serving white wines, serve white fish and white meats; and when serving red wines, serve red meat.

Sauvignon Blanc is the most versatile pairing wine. It  does well with cheese, vegetables, ethnic food, and of course – chicken. The acidity cuts through the heavier protein and herbal notes enhance the seasoning spices. It is also light, so it won’t overpower the meal.

The perfect pairing for Domaine du Castel’s La Vie Blanc is Jamie Geller’s Lemon Soy Roast Chicken. Taking only 15 min to prepare, it tastes amazing and will look beautiful on your table. We served it with fresh New Jersey Zucchini, delicious at this time of year!

Domaine du Castel Winery is located in the Judean Hills. Their over 400 acres of vineyard are 750 meters above sea level where the soil is a combination of terra rossa, clay, and limestone. The winery is known for producing rich, award winning wines, and all work continues to be done manually.

These past months since Oct. 7th have been very difficult. With so many employees serving, it is difficult to maintain a routine. There is not always a definitive staff scheduled; everything depends on the military. The harvest will begin soon and it’s difficult to organize without a reliable number of workers.

Despite everything, they try to remain optimistic. This Shabbat, let’s support our friends at Domaine du Castel by putting their wine on your table. It can be found at most fine liquor stores and all the online kosher sites.  I picked up mine through Kosher Wine Warehouse, free Shipping with a purchase of $99. Use the code ISRAELWINEGIRL for 10% off your entire purchase.
