Ramat Negev Sauvignon Blanc 2023

This Shabbat we are featuring the 2023 vintage of Ramat Negev’s Sauvignon Blanc. This wine is practically a miracle, as it is made with grapes from the 2023 harvest, picked shortly before the tragedy of Oct. 7th. It was produced during the most trying of circumstances. Ramat Negev experienced terrorism, loss of their staff who had to serve and defend their country, the murder of a local wine maker working to produce his next vintage, and the destruction of their wine bottles hit with rockets fired from Gaza. Thank you Ramat Negev for delivering this very special “Miracle Wine”.

As part of their “Oasis Series”, this Sauvignon Blanc is aromatic and produces intense flavors of tropical fruit and citrus. The grapes were hand picked from the vineyards of Nitsana in Kadesh Barnea (Southern Israel; 30k from Gaza). Ramat Negev’s grapes are grown in desert soil where they take advantage of drip irrigation to produce delicious fruit.

Drip Irrigation, now used worldwide, was developed by Israel’s Simcha Blass in 1959. It is the most efficient way to grow crops as it delivers the correct amount of water and nutrients directly to the roots of the plant at the correct time. In the grapevines of the desert, no water is wasted by evaporation and the efficiency rate is 95-100%.

With its light golden color, and served well chilled, Ramat Negev’s Sauvignon Blanc is a deliciously refreshing wine. It is very versatile and a great accompaniment to many meals, but we recommend Celebrity Chef Jamie Geller’s super simple and delicious Avocado and Seared Tuna Steak Salad. This meal looks gourmet and tastes amazing – Jamie’s signature style!

The Ramat Negev Winery was started by Nira and Alon Zadok almost 25 years ago, producing 3,000 bottles of dessert wine. Today their production is over 300,000 bottles and includes most traditional French varieties. Their wines have won many awards, including most recently, at the 2024 Terravino Competition, Double Gold and Outstanding Wine for their Exodus Grand Reserve 2018. It is a blend of Malbec and Petit Verdot aged for an extended period in French oak and presents as a powerful, flavorful wine, with a silky finish.

Both the Sauvignon Blanc 2023 and Exodus Grand Reserve 2018 are showing as available now at Kosher Wine Warehouse, free Shipping with a purchase of $99. Use the code ISRAELWINEGIRL for 10% off your entire purchase.

**Just a note – The Exodus is a luxury wine and priced as a Tier #2 Fine Wine.
