This week’s featured wine is Netofa Winery’s “Latour White”, a delicious 100% Chenin Blanc made from grapes grown in Israel’s Lower Galilee. On the nose it has the lovely essence of summer flowers and crisp ripe pear; and on the palette it’s medium bodied, fruit forward, and with a rich acidity. It even has a touch of nuttiness to it from its aging in French Oak. This wine is meant to be drunk now, or according to our friends at Netofa, even has aging potential.
The Netofa Winery was started in 2006 by winemaker, and founder of the winery, Pierre Miodownik. He is from the Languedoc area of France and had years of experience working in wineries throughout France, Spain and Portugal. The viticulturist Yitzchak Tor also had years of experience in Israel agriculture and vineyards before pairing up with Pierre at Netofa. Together the two friends have formed a “dynamic duo”, and along with a family of workers, they have put their heart and soul into producing quality Israeli wines.

The “Latour” line of wines is Netofa’s reserve line, utilizing the better grapes and longer barrel aging. Over the years they have received prestigious ratings from both Wine Enthusiast and Decanter, and the Latour White is listed on the 90+ Awards page of the Kosher Wine Warehouse site.

These months since the war began have been a hardship for Netofa. Their grapes are handpicked, so the reduction in labor due to people serving made harvest an extreme challenge. It is also difficult to keep the tasting room running, but they are doing the best they can.

Let’s support our friends at Netofa by putting the “Latour White” on your table this Shabbat. We picked up our bottle at the ShopRite in Cherry Hill, but it is also available online at Kosherwine.com and Kosher Wine Warehouse. Kosher Wine Warehouse does offer 10% off with the code IsraelWineGirl and there is Free Shipping on orders of $150.
