About the Wine

De’Vine is a semi-sweet blend of 50% Petite Sirah and 50% Shiraz. The grapes are crushed and fermented in the traditional style, then aged for 12 months in French oak. Toward the end of aging, high-quality red grape must—unfermented grape juice containing only natural grape sugars—is added.

This unique process allows winemakers to adjust sweetness naturally, without additives like cane sugar. It also enhances the body and mouthfeel, creating a full, satisfying taste that’s rich, not sugary.

De’Vine is medium-bodied with a “divine” aroma of red and black fruit. On the palate, the Petite Sirah contributes bold tannins and spice, while the Shiraz adds peppery notes and earthy depth.

Semi-sweet reds pair beautifully with a wide range of dishes—from roasted meats, spicy entrées, and tangy barbecue to desserts such as chocolate cake or fruit-based treats.

For this year’s Yom Kippur break-fast, we’ll be serving Celebrity Chef Jamie Geller’s Pomegranate Pavlova alongside De’Vine. Symbolizing abundance and blessing, pomegranates make the perfect accompaniment to a holiday meal.

About the Winery

Psagot Winery, founded in 2003 by Yaakov and Na’ama Berg, is located in the Binyamin region near Jerusalem. The winery is known not only for its award-winning wines but also for its profound connection to the history of the land.

During the winery’s construction, workers uncovered an ancient cave dating back more than 2,000 years to the Second Temple period. Inside, they found an ancient wine press and a coin from the First Jewish–Roman War (66–73 CE).

  • Obverse: An amphora (the vessel traditionally used to store wine), encircled by the Hebrew words “Year Two.”
  • Reverse: Delicate vine leaves with the stirring inscription “For the Freedom of Zion.”

Deeply inspired, the Bergs chose to reproduce this coin, which now appears on every bottle of Psagot wine.

“Each bottle is our love letter to Israel and a tribute to its amazing history,” says Yaakov Berg.

At 960 meters above sea level, Psagot’s vineyards thrive in rocky limestone soil, with sunny days and cool nights—conditions that yield grapes of exceptional quality. Today, Psagot produces 25 different wines, exported worldwide and consistently recognized with prestigious international awards.

About the Winemaker

Psagot’s winemaker, Sam Soroka, hails from Canada. He studied food science at McGill University and later earned a degree in winemaking from the University of Adelaide in Australia. Before settling in Israel in the early 2000s, Sam gained experience in Australia, California, and France. In Israel, he has held prominent positions, including Chief Winemaker at Carmel Winery.

At Psagot, Sam has continued to raise the bar. Known for his meticulous attention to detail, he ensures grapes are harvested at their peak to produce the highest quality wines. His philosophy aligns with Psagot’s vision: to craft wines that embody the enduring spirit of Israel’s land and people.
