About the Wine

Cabernet Sauvignon is the most popular grape varietal in both the world and in Israel. A natural cross between Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc originating from France’s Bordeaux region, it is celebrated for its rich fruit flavors, full body, firm tannins, and bright acidity—traits that give it exceptional aging potential.

At Israel’s Odem Mountain Winery, Cabernet Sauvignon thrives in volcanic basalt soil, where vines benefit from abundant sunshine, cool mountain breezes in summer, and heavy snowfall in winter. These conditions help produce an outstanding Cabernet with great depth and character. The grapes are hand-harvested and meticulously sorted, as with all wines from Odem Mountain. This wine was aged for approximately 12 months in French oak barrels.

About the Winery

Odem Mountain Winery, located in the northern Golan Heights at an elevation of 1,060 meters, is the highest winery in Israel. It sits in the heart of the Odem Forest Reserve—the largest nature reserve in the region—and near a memorial honoring IDF soldiers of the 7th Armored Brigade who fell during the 1973 Yom Kippur War.

Founded in 2003 by Michael and Idit Alfasi and their four children, the winery was envisioned as a true family venture—a way to keep everyone close while building something together. Today, that vision is a reality. Their son Adam serves as winemaker, daughter Ya’ara leads marketing and exports, Ya’ara’s husband and brother Yishai work in the vineyards, and daughter Efrat creates the handcrafted pottery that adorns the visitors’ center. The family credits their parents’ love of both wine and people as the secret to their success—believing the two are inseparable.

The winery has grown from producing 7,000 bottles in its first year to over 150,000 today. With wines crafted for all palates and budgets, offerings range from approachable entry-level selections to premium reserve bottles from the “1060” and “Alfasi” series. Over the years, Odem Mountain wines have earned numerous awards, including recognition as Best Israeli Boutique Winery.

About the Winemaker

Winemaker Adam Alfasi took over from his father after studying viticulture at Hebrew University. In June 2025, he made history as the first Israeli winemaker invited to present at James Suckling’s Great Wines World New York—one of the most prestigious global wine events. Congratulations, Adam!
