🍇 About the Wine
Covenant C 2018 is a bold and expressive blend of 60% Syrah and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, crafted from premium vineyards in the Golan Heights and Upper Galilee. The grapes are hand-harvested, reflecting the winery’s deep commitment to quality and authenticity.
Fermentation is done using natural (indigenous) yeast, allowing the pure fruit character to shine through. The wine is not pasteurized, preserving the distinctive qualities of the grapes and the terroir from which they come. It was then aged in French oak for approximately 16 months prior to bottling, adding depth, structure, and elegance.
🏛️ About the Winery
Covenant Winery was founded in 2003 by Jeff Morgan (“Big Jeff”), a musician and writer, together with Leslie Rudd, a Napa Valley vintner. Their original vision was ambitious: to create a world-class kosher Cabernet Sauvignon in Napa Valley. Their inspiration and role model was Israel’s renowned Domaine du Castel Grand Vin.
What began as a small project—just 500 cases produced in a shared facility—has grown into a winery producing over 10,000 cases annually, now housed in a beautiful facility in Berkeley, California. Covenant sources its grapes from some of the best vineyard sites in California.
🇮🇱 Covenant Israel
Inspired by a trip to Israel, Jeff Morgan launched Covenant Israel in 2013, creating a sister winery focused on Israeli-grown grapes. In 2019, Covenant welcomed a new partner, Geoff Rochwarger (“Little Geoff”), a longtime friend of the winery who lives in Israel.
For the Israeli line, grapes were sourced from Israel, while winemaking took place at Covenant’s Berkeley facility.
Sadly, the Covenant Israel label has since halted production due to challenging economic conditions. If you’re lucky, you may still find bottles online or in select wine shops. We found ours at Total Wine, and when we saw Little Geoff at KFWE Miami, he promised it would be delicious.
Thank you, Geoff—it absolutely was! 🍷👏
👨🔬 About the Winemaker
Jeff Morgan, Covenant’s co-founder, along with associate winemaker Jonathan Hajdu, served as the winemakers for the Israel Covenant wines, and continue to serve as winemakers for the California labels—bringing a shared vision, consistency, and craftsmanship across both lines.
