About the Wine 🍷

Part of Barkan’s Classic Series, this Malbec is a rich, fruit-forward wine crafted from 100% Malbec grapes grown in the Samson and Judean Plains, just southeast of Tel Aviv 🇮🇱.
This region holds deep historical significance—it was among the first areas planted with vineyards by Baron Edmond de Rothschild in the 1880s, helping to lay the foundation for Israel’s modern wine industry. Today, the area is defined by its Mediterranean climate: hot, humid summers and concentrated winter rainfall. The diverse soils—sandy, terra rossa, and clay—create ideal conditions for growing classic French varietals like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and, of course, Malbec 🍷.
Originally from Cahors in southwest France, Malbec was traditionally used as a blending grape in Bordeaux due to its deep color and bold character. However, its susceptibility to disease led to a decline in popularity in France.
Everything changed in the mid-1800s when Malbec was introduced to Argentina. Thriving in the high-altitude vineyards of Mendoza, it quickly rose to international fame and is now Argentina’s signature grape.
Today, Argentina leads global Malbec production, accounting for over 75% of plantings worldwide. That said, Malbec is finding a strong foothold in Israel as well. The country’s high-altitude vineyards, combined with warm days and cool nights, allow the grape to develop rich fruit flavors, balanced acidity, and soft tannins—qualities beautifully expressed in this wine.
