“To make this Shabbat a Delight”, consider putting the Tulip Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot on your table. The “Tulip Series” of wines, from the “Tulip Winery’ ‘, are special as the varietals “Carignan” and “Viognier” were blended in, providing a unique “Mediterranean” finish. The Cabernet Sauvignon has both the essence of darker fruits with some yummy chocolate, and the Merlot is softer with a bit of plum and darker berries. Both wines were aged in oak barrels for about 8 months making them the perfect accompaniment for a Shabbat meal of Cholent (Ashkenazi), Dafina, Skina, or Hamin (Sephardic).
The Tulip Winery was started in 2003 with the mission of making delicious wines while also doing something good for the community. They found a home on a mountain in the village of Kfar Tikva (Village of Hope) with a nearby residential home for adults with special needs. The winery incorporated those adults into the production of their wines by offering them employment in the vines, winery, and tasting room. As a result, everyone who works at Tulip feels as if they are part of something special.
These days, Tulip is struggling to remain optimistic. Their CEO/Founder, Roy Itzhaki was called to the army, but when on leave is trying to spend time with family and take care of the winery. Their assistant winemaker was also called to the army, leaving everything to a brand new winemaker experiencing their first harvest. The visitor center was closed, but recently opened to serve community members needing an escape.
At this point they are very concerned with the upcoming pruning season which begins in 2 months. One of their vineyards borders Lebanon, and is their best location for growing Syrah. They have no idea if it will be safe enough for them to go there, leaving the vines uncared for.
Let’s provide the ‘hope’ they need by putting a bottle of the Tulip Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot on your Shabbat table. I made my purchases at Total Wines and Shoprite in Cherry Hill.
