“To make this Shabbat a Delight”, consider putting a bottle of the Latour Red from the Netofa Winery, on your table. It is considered a “reserve wine” as it utilizes better grapes and spends more time in the barrel. Made from a blend of Syrah and Mourvèdre, it was aged for 13 months in French oak. On the nose, it smells of dark berries and plum, with some added Mediterranean spice; on the palette, it is full-bodied, rich in tannins, and a hint of licorice on the finish.
Netofa was established in 2006, in Lower Galilee, out of a passion for wine, a love of country, and a commitment to work the land. They are blessed with one of Israel’s most talented winemakers, Pierre Miodownik. Raised in the Languedoc Region of France, he learned the trade by apprenticing at wineries throughout that area. When Edmond Rothchild was looking to make quality kosher wine in France, he hired Pierre to become his winemaker. From there, he was hired by the kosher wine distributor, Royal Wine, to make quality kosher wines all over Europe, which he did for almost 30 years.
Always a committed Zionist, Miodownik eventually made aliyah to Israel and looked to make wine in the Holy Land. He committed to planting varietals that were true to the climate of Israel, more in line with the Cote du Rhone and Portugal, than Bordeaux. Netofa wines are rich in flavors from the grapes Syrah (France’s Rhone), Mourvedre (France’s Rhone), Tempranillo (Spain), Touriga (Portugal), Chenin Blanc (France’s Loire Valley) and Roussanne (France’s Rhone). Netofa is also blessed to have viticulturist Yitzchak Tor care for the vines. He has years of experience in agriculture and together, along with their colleagues, Yitzchak and Piere work to make excellent wines.

Life in the State of Israel has changed since October 7th, and the two friends have jumped in to support the country they so love. Yitzhak, along with staff members, travels north and south to settlements near the conflict line to help farmers who lost workers. Pierre divides his time between guarding their village day and night and continuing to make wine. Staff members not drafted, continue to open the visitor center for IDF soldiers, evacuees, volunteers, and all those needing a break from the reality of day-to-day life.
Our friends at Netofa understand that it is difficult for people to travel to Israel and visit wineries, but they ask for your support by buying from farmers, producers, and small wineries whenever possible. However, If you do happen to be in Israel, and are passing through their area, they will be happy to see you.
