About the Wine

Psagot Sinai White 2024 is a delightful and aromatic blend of Gewürztraminer, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and Viognier grapes, all sourced from vineyards nestled in the Judean Mountains. Thanks to the generous presence of Gewürztraminer, this wine offers a beautiful nose of tropical fruits and blooming florals. Don’t let the sweet aromas fool you—this is a dry, well-balanced wine that’s as elegant as it is refreshing.

Gewürztraminer isn’t typically made for aging, so enjoy this gem now—preferably chilled straight from the fridge—on a warm summer day.

This wine pairs wonderfully with Moroccan and Middle Eastern cuisine. We’ll be serving it this Shabbat alongside celebrity chef Jamie Geller’s famous Moroccan Fish. It’s a match made in culinary heaven!

About the Winery

Psagot Winery, located in the Binyamin Region just north of Jerusalem, was founded in 2003 by Yaakov and Na’ama Berg. Known not only for crafting exceptional wines, Psagot is also deeply rooted in the land’s rich history.

During the construction of the winery, an ancient cave was uncovered—dating back more than 2,000 years to the time of the Second Temple. Inside, they found a wine press and a coin from the First Jewish–Roman War (66–73 CE). The coin featured two powerful symbols:

  • Obverse: An amphora—the classic vessel for wine—surrounded by the Hebrew words “Year Two”
  • Reverse: Vine leaves and the stirring inscription “For the Freedom of Zion”

Deeply moved by this connection to the past, the Bergs recreated the coin, which now appears on every bottle produced by the winery.

“Each bottle is our love letter to Israel and a tribute to its amazing history.” Yaakov Berg

At 960 meters above sea level, Psagot’s vineyards thrive in rocky, limestone-rich soil. With sunny days and cool, crisp nights, the region offers ideal conditions for growing high-quality grapes—an essential ingredient in crafting world-class wines.

Today, Psagot Winery produces over 25 different wines, many of which are exported globally and have earned prestigious awards in international competitions.

About the Winemaker

The magic behind Psagot’s wines comes from acclaimed winemaker Sam Soroka, a Canadian-born talent with a global pedigree. Sam studied food science at McGill University and earned his winemaking degree from the University of Adelaide in Australia.

His resume spans continents—Australia, California, and France—before he settled in Israel in the early 2000s. With experience at several Israeli wineries, including a role as Chief Winemaker at Carmel, Sam brings unparalleled expertise to Psagot.

Sam is meticulous in the vineyard, ensuring grapes are harvested at their peak to maximize flavor and quality. His commitment to Psagot’s mission—to craft wines that symbolize the enduring spirit of the land and people of Israel—is evident in every bottle.

Thank you, Sam! Your passion and skill shine through in every sip.
