About the Wine

Shiran Winery’s The Conductor is a bold and distinctive blend crafted from two powerhouse varietals: Petit Verdot, harvested in 2020, and Petite Syrah, harvested in 2021. These grapes are typically used in small amounts to add depth, color, and strength to other wines, but here, they take center stage.
The Conductor is as expressive as its name suggests. It opens with rich aromas of blackberry, blueberry, and cassis, layered with hints of leather from aging in French, American, and Romanian oak. On the palate, it offers bold flavors of cranberry and black cherry. This full-bodied wine is best enjoyed decanted, allowing its layered character to unfold.

This daring blend began as an experiment in 2014, when winemaker Eli Shiran set out to create something truly unique. The result? A resounding success. Year after year, the wine has grown in complexity and acclaim—earning an impressive 90 points from esteemed wine critic Robert Parker in 2019, and 93 points from Wine Enthusiast in 2020.
The wine is part of a special series honoring Eli’s father, a beloved Chazzan (cantor) and talented musician. Other wines in the tribute series include The Soprano, a blend of Grenache and Petite Sirah, and The Trio, a blend of Carignan, Petite Sirah, and Petit Verdot.

About the Winery
Shiran Winery began humbly in 2012 as a “garage winery” in the backyard of the Shiran family home in Efrat (south of Jerusalem), producing just 600 bottles in its first year. By 2018, the winery had relocated to its current home in Kiryat Arba, the historic town of the Patriarchs. Today, it produces between 10,000 and 12,000 bottles annually.

The musical theme of the winery’s labels is a heartfelt tribute to Eli’s father, of blessed memory. This respected cantor performed at the Great Synagogue of Jerusalem, as well as in synagogues around the world.

About the Winemaker

Eli Shiran, founder, owner, and winemaker of Shiran Winery, was born in 1958 and is a proud ninth-generation Israeli. Although his early career followed a different path—studying business and law, and working in the corporate world—Eli never lost his deep connection to the land.
In 2010, he took a bold step: merging his love of wine, his desire to “work the land,” and his business expertise to create a winery of his own. He trained under Ido Lewinsohn, one of only two Masters of Wine in Israel, and one of just 400 worldwide.
Eli is passionate about expressing the character of Israel’s diverse terroir. He works primarily with varietals like Carignan, Grenache, Petite Sirah, and Petit Verdot, with smaller amounts of Chardonnay and Semillon. The grapes are sourced from multiple regions across Israel, giving his blends a layered complexity that reflects the land itself.
The winery’s guiding motto—“Listening to the vine, making wine”—embodies Eli’s belief that every grape has a story. By listening, the winemaker can tell it. That philosophy aligns beautifully with our own mission here at Israel Wine Girl: to honor the profound spiritual connection between the land and the bottle—something that’s felt more deeply in Israel than anywhere else in the world.
