🍇 About the Wine

Gewürztraminer is a highly aromatic white grape, celebrated for its intense floral, fruity, and spicy character. It is most closely associated with Alsace, a region on the French–German border, where long sunny days, cool nights, and an extended growing season allow the grapes to ripen slowly and develop their signature richness.

This grape typically produces wines that are full-flavored with naturally lower acidity, which is why Gewürztraminer is best enjoyed young, while its aromatics are at their peak.

In Israel, Gewürztraminer is most commonly grown in cooler regions such as the Golan Heights, Upper Galilee, and Judean Hills. Gush Etzion Winery cultivates its grapes in the Gush Etzion Hills, where the elevation and climate provide ideal conditions for achieving full flavor development.

The Lone Oak Gewürztraminer is made in a semi-dry style, fermented in stainless steel tanks. Fermentation is stopped early, leaving residual sugar—the winemaker’s “gift” that gives this wine its signature off-dry sweetness and lush mouthfeel 🍯🍇.

🌳 About the Winery

Gush Etzion Winery is located between Jerusalem and Hebron, within the Gush Etzion communities. Both the winery and the surrounding area are symbolized by The Lone Oak, which also lends its name to this wine.

Before the establishment of the State of Israel, the area was home to several kibbutzim. Due to its strategic location, it came under repeated attack, and just days before Israel’s independence, the settlements were overtaken and destroyed, with 127 defenders losing their lives.

The Lone Oak—a 700-year-old tree standing at the crossroads of the communities—was one of the only survivors. It became a powerful symbol of loss, resilience, and hope.

After the Six-Day War in 1967, Israel regained control of the area, and Gush Etzion was rebuilt and revitalized.
Today, the region is home to 22 communities and more than 70,000 residents. The Lone Oak still stands—but it is no longer alone 🌳💚.

👨‍🍳 About the Winemaker

Shraga Rosenberg, together with his wife Tamar (z”l), founded Gush Etzion Winery. Before becoming a winemaker, Shraga worked as a social worker, running a nursing home while making wine as a hobby in his basement 🍷.

Driven by a passion to restore winemaking to the historic Gush Etzion region, Shraga eventually left his profession. With support from Tishbi Winery and an investor, he and Tamar opened the winery in the early 2000s.

In its early days, production was modest—about 5,000 bottles annually. Today, the winery farms over 200 acres and produces approximately 150,000 bottles per year.

Shraga remains actively involved in the winemaking process and is joined by his son Assaf Rosenberg, who serves as Marketing Manager, helping guide the winery into its next chapter 🍇✨.
